Meet the Parents

Its been six months in the making. And ooh how quickly the time flew by! I remember sitting in the passenger's seat odd that black Chrysler like it was yesterday. His beautiful eyes gazing at mine. "July" I said, "if we make it until then we'll visit my family in Indianapolis." I relaxed my shoulders and took a deep breath. We had plenty of time.

Winter and Spring came and went. And before we knew it, July had sprung up on us ever so quickly. Anticipation filled our hearts as we planned out the day that I would take my very best friend to meet my parents. It was to be a very special occasion. I was anxious and nervous at the same time because I wanted my family to a approve and fall in love with this man as much as I have. So we planned to head up north on Saturday and staying till Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, you would have thought I was going to meet The Queen (God bless her soul)! I called my mom on the phone in a panic! What was I going to wear?! I made my mom stay on the phone with me for two hours as I tried on every piece of clothing in my closet! I would try on an outfit, take a picture, and send it to my mom for her opinion. I was so nervous, I wanted to look my best. After two hours, my mom finally exclaimed, "Mercedes! Why are you making this a big deal? You're coming home to us! We have seen you in the good, bad, and the ugly. You do not need to impress us!" I left in realized she was right. So after getting off the phone I searched for another hour as to what I was going to wear. It wasn't until Saturday morning right before we left that I made my final decision.

This was it! Saturday was finally here and we were both super excited. It didn't take long to reach my parents house. As we pulled into the long, circular drive way I squeezed Daniel's hand. "You ready for this?" I asked. "Of course" he said smiling back at me. Standing at the front door I rang the doorbell, but then rememberedi had a key. I inserted it and pushed on the handle as the door creaked open. Feelings of happiness flooded my heart as memories flashed through my mind. Ah! I was home! And accompanied by that one I so love dearly. One by one my family came to greet us with hugs and kisses. we all settled in the family room to relax and talk while dinner was being prepared. The smell of food quickly filled the house as we talked. And boy did we talk! We talked about everything and we laughed. Oh did we laugh! We had so much fun doing so that after dinner we went right back to talking. Before I knew it it was nine o clock! We had been talking for nine hours straight! All ten of us in this family room for that long! I loved it!

The next day it was time for church. And let me just say that the congregation had been awaiting our arrival! They absolutely loved Daniel and by the end of service everyone wanted to know when we would be coming back! sunday dinner was great. We said our goodbyes and expressed our plans of returning very soon. After all, family is what it's all about!

So add you can see, we had a wonderful time! I am so thrilled at what Good has in store. I am so grateful to have an amazing family who are accepting and loving. The fact that we are so close and can just sit around for an entire day talking and laughing and worshiping God is a straight up goofy from God that I will never take for granted. I will be sure my children have the same thing. Until next time!
