Is Josh Duggar a Hypocrite?

Anyone who has ever watched an episode of 19 Kids and Counting can get a good idea of what type of family the Duggars are. Christian. They have very conservative views and stand for morality and Godliness.

This past week the Duggars, particularly Josh Duggar, have come under fire in response to the exposure of molestation accusations.

Without getting into detail of the incidents (you can read it for yourself on just about every news and media site there is) here is what I think:

There is NEVER an acceptable excuse for sexual molestation. The Bible sets out a horrible punishment for anyone who hurts or offends another:

Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves. "If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.
                                                                         -   Luke 17:1-3 (NIV)

Yet the beauty of Christ is that he has forgiven us of all our sins. No matter what they are. I in no way condone molestation of any kind. But I do condone forgiveness. And calling Josh Duggar a hypocrite because he speaks out against sin but has sinned himself is simply not a reasonable thing to do. Especially for self-professing Christians.

If you believe the Bible to be true, how can you judge this man? Have you not heard of the story about King David? A man who committed adultery and then killed his lover's husband.

What about Paul? A man who murdered many many Christians before he saw the light (literally).

Or that whore named Rahab who God spared and put her in Jesus' family tree?

Everyone makes mistakes...big, ugly bad mistakes. Ones that hurt other people. Ones that hurt themselves.

The fact that someone stands for what is right but is not perfect does not make them a hypocrite. It makes them human.

Haven't you taught your children not to do some of the things you did in the past? If that doesn't make you a hypocrite than neither does it this time. Instead of bashing a man you don't even know, how about offering the love of Christ?

Afterall, the young ladies affected by Josh's actions have forgiven him years ago.

Matter of fact, it was the media NOT anyone else, who came forward with this story. In an attempt to sell more and make money, the media dug this story (that happened over a decade ago) up.

Kind of funny how the devil always tries to destroy us with things from our past that God has already redeemed us from.

  1. This is so close to my heart. I went through some tough things as a child at the hands of people who were supposed to love me and not hurt me. I have forgiven the man and boy responsible. They don't know. One died before I spoke to him again, and the other I have no relationship with, and I feel safer that way. I pray for him and love him, but from a distance.
